"Dive In" Disney underwear for young girls creates fury!

Culture: At no point from idea to manufacturing did someone think having "dive in" printed on little girl's underwear would tick parents off?

The underwear, for girls as young as seven, are to promote the popular Disney film High School Musical and have "Dive In" written on the front.

The phrase is a reference to a scene in film where characters dive into a swimming pool. But the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) and the National Union of Teachers (NUT) have both criticised the underwear, describing it as "inappropriate".

A spokesman for the NSPCC charity said: "This is part of a worrying trend of inappropriate clothing marketed at young children."

Asda said the design on the knickers had been approved by Disney and that it had not meant to cause any offence.

A spokesman said: "The design on the High School Musical underwear was approved by Disney and taken from their style guide.

"It was completely innocent and certainly not meant to cause any offence to customers, however we will now consider our next steps in relation to the small number of items remaining on sale."
