Eric Montross is John Edward's sugar daddy?

Politics: Tip to Deadspin to this report by Radar Online which is goofy as hell because why would you go to this amount of trouble for John Edwards?

Is University of North Carolina alum and former professional basketball player Eric Montross the rich pal of onetime presidential hopeful John Edwards who is (allegedly) paying off both his (alleged) mistress Rielle Hunter and the guy who is taking responsibility for her bastard baby?

This certainly falls under the umbrella of "Wildly Speculative," but let's look at the facts:

Obama Concedes Racial Dimension to 'Dollar Bill' Comments

Politics: Which means he threw the media who were all over the comments by the McCain camp that he was playing the race card under the bus.

"But Obama also admitted that, despite what Obama senior adviser Robert Gibbs told reporters, there was a racial dimension to his Missouri remarks in which he said McCain and the Republicans would make an issue of the fact that he doesn't look like presidents who have been on the dollar bills.

"I don’t think it’s accurate to say that my comments have nothing to do with race," Obama said. "Here's what I was saying and I think this should be undisputed: That I don’t come out of central casting, when it comes to presidential races. For a whole range of reasons. I’m young, I’m new to the national scene, my name is Barack Obama, I am African American, I was born in Hawaii, I spent time in Indonesia. I do not have the typical biography of a presidential candidate. What that means is that I’m sort of unfamiliar and people are still trying to get a fix on who I am, where I come from, what my values are and so forth in a way that might not be true if I seemed more familiar."

The race card ploy that worked on the Clintons did not work with the McCain camp because there is simply no evidence of them using it like Obama. That is why it blew up in their face.

First, Obama campaign officials, lacking any example of McCain ever pointing directly or indirectly at Obama’s race as an issue in the campaign, have backpedaled rapidly away from any suggestion that their Republican opponent is using the very tactics Obama suggested on Wednesday.

Campaign manager David Plouffe was pressed hard during a conference call on Thursday for examples and could not point to any. An inquiry to the Obama campaign later in the day produced no immediate response and later no answer to a direct question asking for evidence to buttress Obama’s suggestion that McCain would try to scare people into not voting for Obama because he’s black.

Before all this happened, McCain advisers believed that the Obama campaign successfully pinned a racist label on Bill Clinton during the during primaries — for comments that drew protests from some leading African American politicians — and were determined not to let the same happen to McCain. Also, they take personally any suggestion from the Obama campaign that they are part of a campaign that would play the race card and are indignant about it.

Obama camp wanted any negativity used against him as it being racially motivated, they overplayed it.

UK Muslims found aiding Taliban war

UK: Not surprising as its been clear in Iraq as well a number of Muslims from Europe in general have been fighting and aiding in both wars.

British Muslims are actively supporting the Taliban and al-Qaeda in attacks on coalition forces in Afghanistan, says the former commander of UK forces.

Brigadier Ed Butler claimed British troops had also uncovered evidence that militant Islamic groups in Helmand province are suspected of assisting terrorist plots in the UK.

Earlier this year suspicions were raised that the Taliban was recruiting an increasing number of fighters from Britain after RAF experts overheard secret transmissions spoken in broad Midlands and Yorkshire accents.

Brig Butler, 46, who led British troops in Helmand province for six months, told the Daily Telegraph newspaper that a growing number of British-born Muslims were assisting the Taliban.

He said: "There are British passport holders who live in the UK who are being found in places like Kandahar.

"There is a link between Kandahar and urban conurbations in the UK. This is something the military understands, but the British public does not."

Brig Butler, widely regarded as one of the best British officers of his generation, announced his decision to retire from the Army earlier this year.

Paper posts birth certificate of "alleged" John Edwards love child.

Media: Mickey Kaus is in heaven at this point as the news is bubbling up the ranks.

The birth certificate of a child who a tabloid newspaper claims is linked to former Sen. John Edwards doesn't identify a father.

The certificate, obtained by The Charlotte Observer today, shows Frances Quinn Hunter was born Feb. 27, more than two months after an Edwards aide claimed to be the father. Andrew Young, a former Edwards campaign finance director, claimed paternity in a statement from his lawyer posted at the political blog mydd.com.

The girl was born at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, Calif., to Rielle Jaya James Druck, also known as Rielle Hunter. Hunter, 44, was a videographer on Edwards' presidential campaign last year.

Asked Thursday why no father was listed on the birth certificate, Hunter's attorney, Robert Gordon of New York, said, “A lot of women do that.”

Reminded that he and Hunter had publicly revealed the father's identity two months earlier to the National Enquirer, Gordon said, “That's a personal matter between them.”

Gordon declined to comment further.

John McCain ad irritates many in Hollywood

Politics: Another sign of a direct hit.

"...McCain's latest attempt at discrediting his handsome, photogenic young rival particularly galls stars and executives with a memory, because only eight years ago, McCain was a fixture in Hollywood fundraising circles when he tried to raise money from the very people his ad now ridicules.

At the time, dozens of people in Hollywood -- including Lear, Harrison Ford, Quincy Jones, Berry Gordy and Michael Douglas -- gave to McCain because they thought he was a Republican celebrity ď with a great personal story. And, dare we say, some celebrities, namely Warren Beatty, even became friends with the Arizona senator.

But the truth is most of Hollywood won't return McCain's calls nowadays because many of the stars and executives he initially impressed now believe the maverick stance they found so attractive was just a pose. Hollywood doesn't object to a good pose -- unless, of course, it doesn't work."

The reason they latched on to McCain is because he was da MAVERICK! bucking the GOP establishment not because any of these twits especially Warren Beatty like his politics.

Ruben Navarrette Jr uses murder of illegal to immigration debate.

Immigration: Not surprising at all that illegal advocates like him are using this horrible murder to try and tie it to the debate about illegal immigration.

"....Authorities now allege that the thugs who beat Luis shouted racial and ethnic epithets. They've charged 16-year-old Brandon J. Piekarsky and 17-year-old Colin J. Walsh as adults with homicide and 18-year-old Derrick M. Donchak with aggravated assault. All three were charged with ethnic intimidation. Another juvenile, whom police haven't named, was charged with assault, and police are continuing to investigate.

Meanwhile, the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF) has called for the U.S. Justice Department to open a federal civil rights investigation into the case to determine if this was a hate crime and, if so, to prosecute the young men under federal hate crime laws. And on Wednesday, the Justice Department announced that its civil rights division has opened a criminal investigation.

I'll second that. If the accused are guilty, the punishment should be swift and harsh. But government isn't the solution, because it didn't create the problem. Where did these little monsters pick up their prejudices? You know where it usually happens.

Racism begins and ends at the dinner table. And thanks to how poisonous the immigration debate has become, some of what is being served up across America will turn your stomach."

If advocates want to go down that aisle of thought about immigration debate and illegals to tie them up together its going to be a really short and dirty debate considering you could out point illegals who have killed others. Its a despicable eagerness of the piece that gets me but they are frustrated by reports that illegals are leaving in droves. So watch for more of this in the future.

D.C.'s Eternal Mayor Watches Over His Ward

Politics: As Marc Fisher's fluff piece on Marion Berry shows how hustlers keep the game going when everyone else realizes they are part of the problem.

T hree mayors have sought to remake Ward 8, home to many of Washington's poorest, most crime-ridden neighborhoods. One, Marion Barry, got nowhere but is widely beloved, hailed on the street as a champion of the needy. The next, Anthony Williams, utterly transformed the landscape yet was treated as an arrogant outsider from Day One right up until his departure. The third, Adrian Fenty, eschews grand visions and emotional bonds, promising only to make things work.

When Fenty shows up on a Ward 8 street corner, he speaks mainly to the TV cameras and the scribblers; when Barry, the ward's council member, drops by, residents' attention quickly slides over from the current mayor to the eternal one.

Of course he could just be playing to the people.

Still, the poverty in Ward 8 is palpable. We stop at a red light, and a 60-ish woman sidles up to Barry's window. "It's the mayor," she says. "I need $4."

"Y'all breaking me over here," Barry grumbles, with a smile.

He reaches into his pocket and counts out four singles, hands them through the window. "These people wearing me out," he says.

From the corner a few yards away, a middle-age man calls out, "What's up, Barry? Got some for me?"

McCain scores with Obama playing the race card.

Politics: McCain camp has hit the target on Obama by saying he is playing the race card for an insidiously stupid claim Black Jesus said last night about dollar bills which Hot Air slapped down showing this is just the latest in a string of attacks by Obama playing the race card. It got so bad even the Obama camp tried to downplay the dollar comment. Even Hardball said Obama was playing the race card first.

The other bit of news was the liberal media's displeasure over the celeb ad of Obama with Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. I said last night that the ad hit the mark the more they squealed about it. Newsbusters has reaction from the morning shows showing displeasure. NYTIMES follows liberal blogger Josh Marshall in saying this is playing the race card. Allahpundit can't believe and I am saying what took the NYTIMES so long to follow along like a lapdog. This is just a way to try and protect Obama with their trump card.

To take down the cult of personality of Obama, you have to chip away at it, this celeb ad is the first to score a direct hit and resonates with people. They need to keep this up till Obama's convention speech which he will accept the nomination at Broncos Stadium to cap off the image he is more style than substance.

Sheikh flies Lamborghini 6,500 miles to Britain for oil change

World: This is how you style and profile in the big leagues. People are up in arms over it but hey you got a supercar it comes with certain expenses.

A RICH Arab sent his Lamborghini on a 6,500-mile round trip to Britain for a service.

The £190,000 supercar was put on a scheduled flight from Qatar to Heathrow – then flown BACK after the oil check.

Money was no object as the flight would have cost the owner –thought to be a Sheikh – around £20,000.

The move sparked fury from green campaigners.

An airport worker said: “This car doesn’t have a carbon footprint – more of a crater.”

The overall cost of sending the Lamborghini to London for the oil change would have cost more than £23,000.

His black-and-gold supercar costs £3,552 to service at an approved dealer – on top of the £20,000 to freight from Qatar to Britain.

The Murciélago LP640 – driven by Batman in movie The Dark Knight – arrived from the Middle Eastern country on Friday.

It cleared customs and was trucked to specialist mechanics in London for the service.

On Monday it was flown back 3,250 miles to the oil-rich state where it was collected by the owner.

Obama calls offshore drilling a 'scheme'

Politics: Typical big oil is evil stump speech that his acolytes lap up.

"The oil companies are shoving this thing down the throats of Congress, because they know everybody wants to try to pretend they're doing something about the energy crisis,” Obama said. “This is not real. I know it's tempting. The polls say its one of the ways that a majority of Americans think we're going to solve this problem, but it's not real."

"I understand how desperate folks are. If I thought that I could provide you some immediate relief on gas by drilling off the shores of California and New Jersey… I'd do it.”

But the Democratic presidential candidate added, "The soonest you would see any drop of oil from drilling off our shores would be 10 years from now….The most you would end up saving 10 years or 20 years from now would be a few cents on the gallon, although at that point, I figure oil might be $12 a gallon."

Citing the oil companies' record profits, Obama charged that they are, "making money hand-over fist, they're making out like bandits."

Obama then proposed his own answers: "First of all, let's make the oil companies drill where they're already got leases, let's increase supply by making them do what they're supposed to do."

Obama also said he wants to make sure speculators aren't manipulating the oil markets.

To a standing ovation, he said, "And let's get serious about alternative energy sources like solar and wind and bio-diesel. Let's raise fuel efficiency standards on cars. Let's get plug-in hybrids all across America. Let's finally free ourselves from dependence on foreign oil. That's the direction we need to go."

Solar, wind will not be economically viable for everyone for decades, bio-diese/bio-fuels have helped push food prices up and are harmful to the environment. We could free ourselves from dependence of foreign oil if we were allowed to drill our own. But that is just not good enough for Obama.

Liberal bloggers squealing about McCain's race card.

Politics: Black Jesus is saying it more and more though he tries to cover it up as not playing the race card, something even Jake Tapper at ABC blog is not buying.

Obama said that "John McCain and the Republicans, they don’t have any new ideas, that’s why they’re spending all their time talking about me. I mean, you haven’t heard a positive thing out of that campaign in ... in a month. All they do is try to run me down and you know, you know this in your own life. If somebody doesn’t have anything nice to say about anybody, that means they’ve got some problems of their own. So they know they’ve got no new ideas, they know they’re dredging up all the stale old stuff they’ve been peddling for the last eight, 10 years.

"But, since they don’t have any new ideas the only strategy they’ve got in this election is to try to scare you about me. They’re going to try to say that I’m a risky guy, they’re going to try to say, 'Well, you know, he’s got a funny name and he doesn’t look like all the presidents on the dollar bills and the five dollar bills and, and they’re going to send out nasty emails.

"And, you know, the latest one they’ve got me in an ad with Paris Hilton," Obama said, referring to a McCain campaign ad launched today. "You know, never met the woman. But, but, you know, what they’re gonna try to argue is that somehow I’m too risky."

....I've seen racism in campaigns before -- I've seen it against Obama in this campaign (more from Democrats than Republicans, at this point, I might add) and I've seen it against McCain in South Carolina in 2000, when his adopted Bangladeshi daughter Bridget was alleged, by the charming friends and allies of then-Gov. George W. Bush, to have been a McCain love-child with an African-American woman.

What I have not seen is it come from McCain or his campaign in such a way to merit the language Obama used today. Pretty inflammatory.

The ad in question shows Obama along with Paris Hilton and Britney Spears mocking him as more of a empty celebrity than a leader( The fawning People cover story this week ain't helping)

Liberals have spotted the racist overtones led by Josh Marshall.

I note with interest today, John McCain's new tactic of associating Barack Obama with oversexed and/or promiscuous young white women. (See today's new ad and this from yesterday.) Presumably, a la Harold Ford 2006, this will be one of those strategies that will be a matter of deep dispute during the campaign and later treated as transparent and obvious once the campaign is concluded.

But what I'm most interested in today is the new meme the McCain campaign has been pushing for the last few weeks that Obama is presumptuous, arrogant and well ... just a bit uppity. Ron Fournier picked the ball up early in his reporting for the AP. And John King was pushing it over the weekend on CNN. Is it arrogant or above Obama's station for him to meet with the Chairman of the Federal Reserve? If I'm not mistaken he is a sitting United States senator and also the presidential candidate of the Democratic party. Such meetings are actually the norm.

So we got the black man in the ad with white women and now the code word "uppity." I said this earlier in the year that any negativity about Obama will be met with charges of racism and I say to that screw them. The new ad with Paris and Spears show Obama as being just as empty as those two.

The fact the squealing started shows it hit a nerve for liberals which means its a hit. As for the uppity meme, well he didn't do himself any favors with his I am the symbol of hope speech that came out this morning. The GOP has to be smart about attack ads and they have to stand up to the charges of racism by the liberals because that is their entire attack plan to stop any criticism of Black Jesus.

Now Ramesh Ponnuru and AllahPundit don't like the ad but the point of the ad is not to knock Obama down in one hit but chip away at the almost Christ like image he has bit by bit. People see this ad and then at the supermarket checkout line they see this, some will put it together.

I disagree that it brings down McCain at this point but if it continues like this thru the fall, then it becomes a huge problem.

Obama: I have become a symbol!

Politics: He is the way! The alpha and the omega, Black Jesus is rising to new heights!

Obama's Symbolic Importance
By Jonathan Weisman
Perhaps he's beginning to believe the hype.

In his closed door meeting with House Democrats this evening, presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama delivered a real zinger. According to a witness, he was waxing lyrical about last week's trip to Europe, when he concluded, "this is the moment, as Nancy [Pelosi] noted, that the world is waiting for."

The 200,000 souls who thronged to his speech in Berlin came not just for him, he told the enthralled audience of congressional representatives.

"I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions," he said.

The countries that host the most UK tourists also trust them the least, new figures showed.

The Spanish and the French mistrust UK tourists the most, with Germans, Portuguese and Russians also wary of British visitors, a survey from Readers' Digest found.

Switzerland, followed by Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland and Austria are countries that trust UK tourists the most.

Italy calls out army to fight basically everything.

Italy: DA MAN! Silvio Berlusconi and party laying down the law though it does seem a bit of an overkill.

Italy's centre-right government on Tuesday called out the army to help police fight crime, stem illegal immigration and defend potential targets of terrorism.

But the opposition criticised the move as token window-dressing and warned that it could boomerang, hurt the country's image abroad and even scare tourists away.

Interior Minister Roberto Maroni and Defence Minister Ignazio La Russa signed a decree that will send 4,000 soldiers on to the streets starting next week.

Some 3,000 of them will patrol with police in large cities such as Rome, Milan, Naples and Palermo.

They will also help guard areas like the Vatican, Milan's cathedral, train stations, embassies and other "sensitive targets" -- sites that could be subject to militant attacks.

Other soldiers will help guard detention centres where illegal immigrants are sent after they arrive in Italy, mostly on its southern shores.

"This proves that we are determined to eliminate citizens' fears," La Russa said of the plan, which will remain in effect for at least six months.

Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's People of Freedom swept to power in April's election promising a tough line on illegal immigrants and crime. It dismisses criticism from the opposition centre-left which says it is exaggerating the problem.

No new fast-food outlets in poor area

Nation: If they were really on a health kick and wanting to get "healthier" food places in the poor areas. Start shutting down the fast food places, put in tax breaks(exceptional) in place to bring in these high end food marts. This is one of those plans that is not well thought out because higher end places will not relocate to areas that can't afford them on a regular basis.

Downtown Wal-Mart draws Miami residents ire!

South Florida: Even the elitism by a commissioner aide is laughable as downtown Miami is a bit of a joke to have any sort of night life.

And Wal-Mart would occupy a higher-profile location -- one where city leaders have longed to attract sophisticated restaurants and upscale shops. Looking to meld into the community, Wal-Mart is considering a decidedly different look for this store.

The deal isn't final -- Wal-Mart is not yet a committed tenant, and the property in question is still technically owned by The Miami Herald's parent, The McClatchy Co. McClatchy expects its sale of the land, near Biscayne Boulevard and North Bayshore Drive. to close by the end of the year.

Nevertheless, Wal-Mart's interest is serious enough to have sent some residents and government officials into mini-uproar.

''Horrors!!'' resident Sharon Dodge recently wrote to City Hall.

Another resident chimed in: ``There goes the neighborhood!''

And this, from a City Commission aide: ``Visualize a Wal-Mart customer in his pick-up truck, and family of four, driving past tuxedo-clad PAC center guests arriving simultaneously.''

Considering the poverty rate of Miami, a Walmart would add something useful for once to the area, city official would be wise to just shut the hell up.

The poverty rate for Miami-Dade was 17 percent, a decline from 18.4 percent in 2003, but still high enough for a No. 34 rank among counties surveyed.

The national poverty rate increased to 13.1 percent in 2004, from 12.7 percent in 2003.

Locally, poverty was more of a problem within Miami-Dade's best-known city.

The city of Miami ranked last out of 70 cities with a $24,031 median annual income. With 28.3 percent of its residents living in poverty - defined as less than $9,570 per individual or $19,500 for a family of four - the city had the third-highest poverty rate in the nation.

Miami was also one of the least affordable places to live. With 69 percent of its residents spending at least 30 percent of their household income on home ownership, Miami ranked first among least affordable cities for home ownership.

Miami-Dade County was second among counties at 54 percent.

Both the county and city ranked first in residents spending at least 30 percent of their income on rent, with 61 percent in Miami-Dade County and 64 percent in Miami.

Education and language remained barriers to economic prosperity in Miami. The city ranked second-to-last in people over 18 with a high school diploma, with 23 percent of the population not having that degree.

Also, just over one-third of the residents in Miami-Dade County over five years old said they speak English less than "very well."

Vaginal reconstruction being done in Sweden.

Culture: This revelation has caused some shock among officials.

Surgical reconstructions of the hymen, a fold of skin found at a woman's vaginal opening, are being performed by both public and private practitioners in Stockholm, a new report shows.

The study has caused alarm among local health officials and politicians, who were previously unaware that such operations took place at all, let alone at tax payer-funded health clinics.

"That there is even a demand for this type of operation is appalling. It is not illegal as long as it is voluntary, but I personally do not believe that girls that approach the healthcare services for a hymen reconstruction do this voluntarily," said Stockholm's vice-mayor and social services secretary, Ulf Kristersson of the Moderate Party in a statement

"[It's] a medical procedure without purpose."

The findings come from a project launched in the autumn of 2007 by Stockholm's city council launched to survey the incidence of "honour-related restrictions" on the lives of girls and boys living in the city.

Call for Chicago students to skip 1st school day

Edumacation: Not exactly a good way to point out the funding difference between school districts and quite frankly a wretched example of so called leaders wanting a circus instead of making realistic ways of getting the funding done.

Community leaders on Monday called on students from poorer parts of Chicago to protest inequalities in school funding by skipping the first day of classes.

State Sen. James Meeks wants students to spend Sept. 2 trying to enroll in a suburban school district that spends much more per student than Chicago Public Schools does. Critics of the planned protest say it will send the wrong message to children and undermine campaigns to get as many students as possible to attend the first day of classes in the nation's third-largest school district.

Protest organizers, though, say their message about unequal funding trumps any on attendance.

"Today we are back to two-tiered schools — white and affluent on one side, and black, brown and poor on the other," said Meeks, who also is a minister on the city's South Side. "That's an injustice and it's immoral."

Meeks said he expects several thousand Chicago students to travel in a caravan of buses to New Trier Township High School in the leafy, North Shore suburb of Winnetka, where they will attempt to enroll.

State statistics indicate that the New Trier district spends around $17,000 annually on each of its students compared to the roughly $10,000 a year spent for each student in Chicago public schools.

Zimbabwe runs out of paper to make money

Africa: The last two factions Mugabe does not want to get on their bad side is the police and military.

The government is reported to have run out of paper to print money and is believed to be panicking over how to pay salaries for civil servants, especially soldiers and police who are the backbone of the Mugabe dictatorship.

Giesecke & Devrient, the European company that was providing the paper, was last month pressured to cut supplies by the German government, after protests were threatened. In addition, a company that provides the software licences for the design and printing of the banknotes, is reported to be considering withdrawing their contract.

The military has helped run the country for some years now and the Mugabe regime needs to sustain military and police operations in order to maintain political control. There is much consensus among observers that Mugabe's recent decision to sign the Memorandum of Agreement with the two MDC formations was clearly based on increased economic pressure. One English pound this week is trading at Z$1.3 trillion.

The software for the notes, which is supplied by a Hungarian-Austrian company called Jura JSP, is reportedly very technical. The UK Guardian newspaper quoted a 'knowledgeable source' at the Zimbabwe government's Fidelity Printers, who said the software issue was a major problem and had created an air of panic. "They are in a panic because without the software they can't print anything," the source added.

Shocking news, Fuel Subsidies screws up market prices.

World: Where the fear of the people means the people taxes subsidies fuel costs to keep low which means demand keeps going up which means more taxes/subsidies which means most of these countries are going to implode pretty soon.

JAKARTA, Indonesia — To understand why fuel prices in the United States have soared over the last year, it helps to talk to the captain of a battered wooden freighter here.

He pays just $2.30 a gallon for diesel, the same price Indonesian motorists pay for regular gasoline. His vessel burns diesel by the barrel, so when the government prepared for a limited price increase this spring, he took to the streets to protest.

“If the government increases the price of fuel any more, my business will collapse totally,” said the boat captain, Sinar, who like many Indonesians uses only one name.

From Mexico to India to China, governments fearful of inflation and street protests are heavily subsidizing energy prices, particularly for diesel fuel. But the subsidies — estimated at $40 billion this year in China alone — are also removing much of the incentive to conserve fuel.

The oil company BP, known for thorough statistical analysis of energy markets, estimates that countries with subsidies accounted for 96 percent of the world’s increase in oil use last year — growth that has helped drive prices to record levels.

In most countries that do not subsidize fuel, high prices have caused oil demand to stagnate or fall, as economic theory says they should. But in countries with subsidies, demand is still rising steeply, threatening to outstrip the growth in global supplies.

President Bush warned about the effects of subsidies on July 15. “I am discouraged by the fact that some nations subsidize the purchases of product, like gasoline, which, therefore, means that demand may not be causing the market to adjust as rapidly as we’d like,” he said.

Indeed, the biggest question hanging over global oil markets these days may be how much longer countries can keep paying the high cost of subsidizing their consumers. If enough countries start passing the true cost of oil through to their citizens, many economists believe, demand growth will slow, bringing the oil market into better balance and lowering prices — although the long-term economic rise of China and other populous countries makes it unlikely that gasoline prices will plunge back to the levels of several years ago.

Virginia Jails to Report Foreign Inmates

Immigration: Prince Williams County started it and now the whole state is doing it.

A year after Prince William County launched a crackdown on illegal immigrants, Virginia has implemented a law that requires something similar for every jurisdiction in the state. Jail officials are now required to notify federal authorities of all foreign-born inmates regardless of their immigration status.

The little-noticed law went into effect July 1 and aims to make every corner of the state as unwelcoming as Prince William for illegal immigrants charged with crimes.

"With our new law, these people who are here illegally should be afraid of living anywhere in Virginia right now," said Del. David B. Albo (R-Fairfax), who helped write the law and chairs the state's crime commission. "If you're here illegally, it's not any scarier to live in Prince William than in any other county."

Prince William and about 60 other jurisdictions nationwide had previously joined in a separate partnership with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials to identify immigrants who have committed crimes. But now, under the Virginia law, officials across the state have begun routinely filing similar reports to the same federal authorities that Prince William does. Under the state law, local jails probably will spend a fraction of the $10.5 million Prince Willliam has budgeted over the next five years for the ICE partnership.

Sanctuary advocate Mayor Gavin Newsom marries and takes honeymoon

Immigration: While San Francisco is still being rocked by the murders caused by the policies he defended. Newsom gets married and honeymooning in Africa.

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom took a break from his busy job and gubernatorial ambitions to marry actress Jennifer Siebel on Saturday at Siebel's parents' Montana ranch.

It is the 34-year-old Siebel's first marriage and the second for Newsom, who divorced legal analyst Kimberly Guilfoyle in March 2006.

Newsom met Siebel in October 2006 and they have been together ever since. Siebel was at Newsom's side when he was sworn in for his second term as mayor in January. She also stood by him after he publicly admitted to having had an affair with a staff member's wife and a drinking problem.

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi traveled to Montana to attend the wedding as did other friends and family.

Siebel is an actress who has appeared in the NBC television series "Life" and who attended Stanford Business School.

The 40-year-old mayor and his new bride will honeymoon in Africa.

Staff member? He was best friends with the guy and did his wife. Poor guy was the last person to know too.

ICE raids come to Hilton Head, SC.

Immigration: Concerned people are unhappy about it and the fact the Sheriff will continue the program.

Responding to a recent crackdown on illegal immigration, local Hispanic leaders met with Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner on Tuesday.

The meeting had a few tense moments -- a reflection of the upheaval in the Hispanic community after Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents began targeting suspected illegal immigrants booked in county jails across the state.

The group of local pastors, businessmen, Spanish-language media representatives and other Hispanic community leaders said they were caught off guard when ICE's "Operation Surge" began in Beaufort County. Tanner said he plans to continue the program once federal agents leave, using five deputies trained to enforce immigration laws.

.....But many leaders at the meeting were upset by the broader policy of targeting illegal immigrants.

One of the pastors at the meeting, Jose Rosado of Iglesia Ebenezer in Bluffton, said he was upset Tanner was planning to continue the program to identify suspected illegal immigrants in the jail regardless of the nature of their crime.

Rosado said he will be working in coming weeks to rally support for the Hispanic community in the face of county, state and federal measures meant to address the problem of illegal immigration.

Rosado said he wants religious leaders, regardless of their race or the race of their ministries, to take a stand.

The concern is they want to keep the raids out and illegals in. Same old same old.

* I was right* Minority journalists CANNOT resist applauding Obama

Media: Hell No. They didn't at the NABJ last year and they sure as hell won't do it this year. Don't think its just because its a minority either as pointed out in the article.

Conservatives have spent years decrying a liberal media bias; Democrats fought over how Hillary Clinton's primary coverage compared with Obama's. This week, the campaign of John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, sniped at the media constellation chasing Obama on his excursion through the Middle East and Europe. And questions of personal politics have plagued journalists of all backgrounds.

But even against this backdrop, the Unity journalists face some unique pressures. In 2004, Democrat John Kerry inspired a standing ovation; President Bush got a few boos during his speech, which disturbed some of the journalists present. This year, McCain declined an invitation to appear at Unity, citing scheduling conflicts.

As long as he is a Dem they will cheer like the partisan hacks.

Update# Bump to the top.

"....At UNITY, the applause was restrained, after organizers reminded conference participants that the appearance was being nationally broadcast and they should make every effort to maintain "professional decorum."

Still, Obama received a standing ovation from many in the audience at the start and end of his appearance. There was also a rush toward the stage after his speech, as Obama shook hands and signed autographs.

One journalist was also overheard wishing him luck, while another squealed, "He touched me!" as she left the ballroom.

Before Obama arrived, a panel discussed the question of journalistic objectivity, including whether journalists should clap for politicians when they appear.

"The mainstream media loves John McCain. They cheer for him all the time. And now we're going to tell our black journalists, our Hispanic journalists, that they can't clap for Obama?" African-American columnist Les Payne responded.

Les Payne is amazingly myopic or stupid if he thinks the MSM( in his mind all them white people) are cheering for McCain.

But back to the question if they could restrain themselves, of course not. This was as easy to answer as asking if dogs lick themselves or cats hack up hairballs.

Muslim students back killing in the name of Islam

UK: Alarming results from a poll taken from a cross section of 600 Muslim and 800 non-Muslim students in terms of what you will do for religion.

study on the attitudes of students has found that 28 per cent said killing could be justified if the religion was under attack and another four per cent supported killing in order to "promote and preserve" the religion.

Over half, 53 per cent, said killing in the name of religion was never justifiable but among non-Muslim students that figure was 94 per cent.
While most students showed a typical generation gap where their parents were more religious than they were – 72 per cent – a significant 18 per cent said they were more strict in their religious observance than their parents.

The importance of sharia law to most Muslim was underlined by the 40 per cent who said they supported its introduction into law for Muslims in Britain, although 37 per cent opposed it.

A third of those surveyed supported the creation of a worldwide Muslim caliphate but 25 per cent opposed it and 42 per cent said they were not sure.

Half of the students said they would not be supportive of a friend who wanted to leave Islam.

Hannah Stuart, from the Centre for Social Cohesion, co-author of the report, said: "These findings are deeply alarming. Students in higher education are the future leaders of their communities yet significant numbers of them appear to hold beliefs which contravene liberal, democratic values.

"In addition there are signs of growing religious segregation on campus. These results are deeply embarrassing for those who have said that there is no extremism in British universities."

Muslim and other students groups are up in arms about the results, not that they have refuted it in any way but the same blather about it being bad for social cohesion.
The findings have shocked and outraged Muslim students' leaders in Scotland. They have dismissed the CSC's research as flawed. Adel Daas, president of Strathclyde University Muslim Students' Association, said: "What scares me is how this report is going to be used. It will be used to divide Muslims from non-Muslims.

"This is not working to bring communities together, it is trying to highlight the things that separate us from others, which is wrong. This study is going to cause more pressure, more separation, more issues and more problems."

The Scottish Islamic Foundation also expressed reservations about the findings. Noman Tahir, a Glasgow University student who is also from the foundation, said: "Despite the pleasant name, it has become increasingly apparent over the last few years that this organisation is less concerned about social cohesion and instead more apt at spreading vicious lies and hatred towards Muslims.

"I do not for one minute believe that Muslim students are actively walking around campus thinking about how to implement sharia law or plotting to establish an Islamic political party. From my experience, students are more concerned about promoting a positive image of their faith and living harmoniously with people of different backgrounds."

Guardian:

But the claims were met with a ferocious response from the National Union of Students. 'This is just another report by a biased, right-wing think-tank whose conclusions are drawn from an extremely limited number of students,' said Wes Streeting, president of the NUS. 'It is a wilful misrepresentation of the views of Muslim students designed to create as sensational a picture as possible. It can serve only to generate a climate of fear on campuses.'

Times Online

Wes Streeting, president of the National Union of Students, condemned the study. “This disgusting report is a reflection of the biases and prejudices of a right-wing think tank – not the views of Muslim students across Britain,” he said. “Only 632 Muslim students were asked vague and misleading questions, and their answers were wilfully misinterpreted.”

Some of the findings amplify previous research. A report by Policy Exchange last year found that 37% of all Muslims aged 16-24 would prefer to live under a sharia system.

Baroness Warwick, chief executive of Universities UK, said: “Violence, or the incitement to violence, has no place on a university campus.”

NJ Senator blocking E-Verify from being renewed.

Immigration: Any half effective tool against illegal employment will be shut down or damaged by Democrats, this one by Sen. Menendez (D-N.J.)

E-Verify (the effective program to keep illegal aliens out of U.S. jobs) now is facing danger in the Senate, as well as the House (see my previous blogs on House troubles).

The NumbersUSA Capitol Hill Team has been told that Sen. Menendez (D-N.J.) has put a "hold" on legislation to reauthorize the E-Verify workplace verification program. That means the Senate is barred from voting to keep it alive. Without a vote, E-Verify will die in November.

Our understanding is that Sen. Menendez is blocking the most effective tool against illegal immigration in order to get something else that he wants. He will allow an E-Verify vote if he is allowed to give hundreds of thousands of skilled American jobs permanently to hundreds of thousands of additional immigrants.

Obama says conditions to dictate final Iraq force

Iraq: Now a reverse as Obama finally comes to McCain position as for the number of troops to be in Iraq based on conditions.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said in an interview published on Saturday the size of a residual U.S. force left in Iraq after the withdrawal of combat troops would be "entirely conditions-based."

In comments seized upon by the campaign of Republican rival John McCain, Obama told Newsweek Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki recognized Iraq was "going to need our help for some time to come."

...The McCain campaign said the comments were the latest shift in Obama's position on Iraq toward his opponent's view that troop withdrawals must be based on security conditions.

"Barack Obama is ultimately articulating a position of sustained troop levels in Iraq based on the conditions on the ground and the security of the country. That is the very same position that John McCain has long held," said McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds.

"We welcome this latest shift in Senator Obama's position, but it is obvious that it was only a lack of experience and judgment that kept him from arriving at this position sooner," the campaign said in a statement.

The AP all but declared Iraq won this weekend so it will be interesting for this week to see how Obama and the Dems switch their message around to try and take advantage of it.

Kilpatrick shoves detective, has to take drug tests.

Nation: Pretty much time to go, actually it was that way months ago but he keeps hanging on because no one is really telling to go away.

A detective working a criminal case against Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick said coincidence led him to a house to try to deliver a subpoena.

Brian White wasn't prepared for what he said followed: a physical confrontation with the beefy mayor that involved a profanity-laced tirade by Kilpatrick and a possible hip fracture for the investigator.

After hearing the allegations Friday, a judge said Kilpatrick's behavior was "totally irrational." He changed the terms of the mayor's bond in the criminal case, ordering him to immediately post $7,500 and undergo random drug tests.

There is no suggestion that drugs played a role in Kilpatrick's behavior.

"I don't know what was going on in defendant Kilpatrick's life that he exploded, for want of a better term," Judge Ronald Giles said. "This is ridiculous."

The 38-year-old mayor and his former top aide, Christine Beatty, are charged with perjury, misconduct and obstruction of justice, all tied to their testimony in a civil trial last year. During the trial, they denied having a romantic relationship, but those claims are contradicted by text messages.

Kilpatrick declined comment as he walked out of court Friday. A bail bondsman assisted him in paying the $7,500, which represents 10 percent of his previous bond. The mayor hadn't been required to post any cash before the incident.
