Richard Cressy, 47, and Margie Cressy, 41, were charged with four misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child, deputies said. The couple is accused of violating a state law that requires parents who are home schooling their children to register their curriculum with the local school district.
The superintendent of the Fonda-Fultonville Central School District told authorities that curriculum for the four children, who range in age from 8 to 14 years old, had not been approved. The arrests came after a joint investigation by the Montgomery County Child Protective Services and the sheriff's office.
The Cressys were issued appearance tickets and the case has been turned over to the Montgomery County district attorney's office.
Unless there is some other reason to put this family thru this hell, there better be a backlash.
I am a former MD homeschooler. The law states you must file a Notice of Intent, not register your curriculum. You have two options, use an umbrella school or submit a portfolio to a district representative. It is easy to comply. If they did not comply with the law, they will have to face the consequences, just as someone who drives without a license.

This is a civil matter. The parent are charged with Child endangerment. Where is the abuse? Home schooling and don't report it to the school is child endangerment? Two words Police State run amouk
ReplyDeleteWhy must the government try to controll everyone. If they decide not to register that's their business. Who the he** is the state to decide what is best. If the parents were not to register their curriculum and they find it not to be to their standards what next... The school system does not bow down to us as parents. It's their kids...The state come in and steals kids and then decide that they have problems like adhd and what ever and drug children without parent permission all the time. In effect they receive more money for the kids... Let's talk about the mis treatment the children get from the state. Let's charge the DA** state with child endangerment.... Let's charge the state with neglect because of all the children in their custody not receiving the service and care needed. Now what about the children welfare fareal now due to them probably tearing them out their home...Children experience more neglect and possible abuse in the care of the state... Child protective services are child thieves and the real abuse and neglected children go ignored...Take some of the time you have and investigate your own and see what real poop pops up...Their kids may be smarter than the children receiving public education..Someone like me would video tape my kids being quiz to prove how my care is better. Their must be a reason why she doesn't want her kids in the school. Kids are killing themselves due to the neglect of teachers protecting children due to bullying. Please everyone due what you feel is best for your children. If you don't need the state for nothing do what you want. Your not hurting no one.......
