Simon Pegg's new movie Paul: Anti Christian?

Great, Pegg has shown himself to be the typical UK comic where the only good enemy are Christians, I doubt he would mock Islam in this way.

  1. I quite agree. I was shocked at the sickening desperation in Simon Peggs willingness to 'make it' big in Hollywood,by christian bashing.

  2. Anyone who takes religion to literal deserves bashing, I am agnostic and i feal Christians shove there religion in my face sometimes and think the world should revolve around what they belive. It holds back medical science and technology because some things are frowned upon because we try to play God etc etc. Bull I have as much right for my country to research cloning as you do believing in YOUR God.
Also i feal the need to point out if you dont like the film dont watch it simple, and if you care that much about it try to find somebody who cares

  3. Wow good spelling genius....wish we could all be as smart as you....you have convinced me to be agnostic so I can spell stuff wrong and look stupid...while telling people they hold back research when obviously someone is holding back the human race and I for one think its the guy who cant spell feel.

  4. As a third party here, I can say the rebuttal above is nothing more than a personal attack. No argumentative tact or relevance to the statements made.

  5. I just saw "Paul".

The whole point of the movie is to portray Christians in particular and those from all religions as moronic buffoons. It is clear that the main focus of the movie was to get that point across.

This movie is about using humor in making excuses for Homosexual conduct as being "normal" and religion "Christianity in particular" as being idiotic.

Quote from Pegg “Once I had to kiss three guys; real full-on snogs. I think every man should snog another man. A kiss is so much more than physical touching; we laughed about it at the time, but there was no passion".

So if Homosexuality is OK then that must mean that Christianity must be wrong.... get it?

He uses a cute smarta$$ green alien to make his point by using "His existence proves there is no God". Really??? I haven't seen any but I would not be surprised if there were other intelligent life out there. But it would not be proof that there is no God. Just more proof that God is quite busy and has been around a really long time.

Pegg's attack on our faith is neither funny nor warranted. I hope the little Marxist stays in
England and makes another funny film but this time poke Islam in the eye. But then again the little atheist commy coward wouldn't do that now would he.

  6. Stupid Christian right up there /\
no offense to the smart Christians. The movie was not atheist propaganda and you are stupid if you thinks it's all about dissing Christians
Ps if you tell me I can't spell as a comeback, it just proves that you know I'm right, you just want to make me look like a dumbass so I can lose my credibility

  7. Well, I hope to be considered a "smart" Christian here..... I was offended by the movie, particularly, because the Christian depiction is so blatantly inaccurate. I am not a Bible-bashing, gun-toting moron. That said, the movie was not "all about" dissing Christians, just a big part. I do now know, however, that it takes an alien to explain how humans came into existence on this planet...... :D

  8. The stereotypical Christian references in the movie did not add anything to the movie. It would have been a great movie without them.

  9. To the one who said, "Anyone who takes religion to literal deserves bashing." Would you be cool if I said, "Anyone who doesn't think like I do deserves bashing?" Because that is basically what you said.

I saw Paul. It did have an agenda to ridicule anyone who embraces God more than evolution. I don't reject evolution, but I don't believe that science has a conclusive kung-fu grip on origins, common descent, or whether or not God exists. So please don't paint biblical literalists with the same mile-wide brush that you wouldn't like pasted across your own face. Golden rule, baby.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I Personally am very thankful that I saw this worthless waste of film on a bootleg and did not contribute any money toward it's athiest agenda. Although I do still feel as though I was ripped off of an hour and fourty-five minutes of my life for having watched it.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I was enjoying Paul right up until it's atheist bullshit agenda took over and from that point on the whole movie was ruined for me. I am a Christian and I believe in God and I believe in Jesus and I'm not ashamed of that at all. Likewise I don't go around bashing all these queers and atheist just because they do not believe as I do. Why? because I don't feel threatened by them, but it sure seems like the atheist community feels extremely threatened by the views and beliefs of us Christians seeing as they can't stop trying to insult and bad mouth us every chance they get. Maybe it's because they know deep down (if they are smart enough) that their own beliefs (or lack there of) is sending them straight to Hell.

  12. Oh,whoa, hey Christians, please remember to be Christ like. He would not have retaliated in a demeaning manner toward those who didn't believe in him, but he sharply corrected the pharisees who were supposed to be the top notch God's crew of that era. Our love for our fellow man should compel us to respond out of a loving heart, not spouting out severe rebuttals out of hurt pride. And never, ever think we're better than a nonbeliever. We are all in desperate need of God's love and forgiveness. I know I am.
Many hated him, but he responded with outstretched arms; many will hate those like him. Maybe responding with outstretched arms, also, will actually demonstrate the true message and heart of Christ and his love.

  13. This movie was just okay. It could have been great if it toned down on making fun of Christians or if the writers grew a pair and made fun of other monotheistic religions. Paul does say in one line he is not only hating on Christian but also all monotheistic religions. Yet if they were to actually make fun of other monotheistic religions such as Judaism or Islam this movie would have never made it to the theaters and everybody involved in this movie would be labeled a prejudice. I know this movie is a comedy so I am not too bothered by it but come on making fun of Christians is nothing new and it’s really easy. I have a lot of respect Mr. Simon Pegg because of the previous movies he has written. Saying that, Mr. Simon Pegg should have either put more effort or creativity into his most recent movie “Paul”.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I am Christian and I do not judge or make fun of others because they don't share the same beliefs as I do. What it all comes down to is that whatever someone believes they should not be made fun of for it because we are all human. That being said I think Paul would have been a much more enjoyable film if it could have just left out completely its attacks on Christians or for that matter anyone's personal beliefs. After all people go to the movies for an escape from the real world and not to be made fun of and insulted for what they believe.

  15. Screw Christianity. Christianity, like their Muslim counterparts, justify murder, rape, and oppression with their disgusting morality. They are a danger to society and should be ridiculed whenever possible. I am sick of their indignation when someone finally explains to these ignorant asshats that their book is, at the very best, a sophomoric attempt to explain the world, and worst, the justification for genocide. It is true that not all of the faithful actually participate in this behavior, however their association with this group and their frequent endorsement of this sick and twisted book provides the fringe element all the authority they need to deliver their poison. It's about time someone puts this self-rightous group in their place. Kudos to my heros Simon Pegg and Nick Frost!

  17. I thought it was better than Shawn of the Dead, and anyone who thinks the earth is a few thousand years old should be made fun of.

  18. I find it so funny how many christians on here get so butt hurt when a movie comes out that shows the view point of the non-theists. Many of us do believe you people are completely ridiculous. Day-to-day we are getting christian beliefs bashed in our faces and told we're immoral if we do not believe what they believe. So what if this movie makes fun of the fundamentalists. Personally, I think they deserve it. Reason this movie didn't poke fun at all mono-theistic religions is because islam and judaism are not the major religions in this country, not even close. Christianity is with over 80% of the poplulation. Stop whining and stop taking yourself so seriously. Just enjoy the film and maybe you'll learn something.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Because I am a Christian I am disgusted by or hostile towards theft, murder of the innocent (Including abortion.), fornication, adultery, sodomy, bestiality, rape, incest, disrespect for ones elders and parents, lying under oath, and many other subjects.
I am uncompromising and bigoted on these issues, that's not something I'm ashamed of, nor should any Christian be.
Furthermore, there are peer reviewed papers done by Robert Gentry that have not had a rebuttal since their publication, decades ago, pointing to a young age of the Earth and a nearby center of the universe.

I am sorry for the long prelude, but it all follows into my review of Paul:

Paul had some good laughs but it was largely offensive, not because it stereotyped Christians badly and mocked us, but because it actively supported immoral behavior from cheering on a kid as he makes out of a store with a stolen magazine to frivolous sex.
It also helped promote the stranglehold atheists have on the scientific community.

Somehow you atheists are surprised that an agnostic, such as myself, can hold to Christianity when you put out this moral vacuum of a movie.

How can you even wonder why Christians always seem to act like they have the moral higher ground over you? How do you expect us to respect you if you don't even hold yourselves accountable to something as basic as not stealing the personal property of others?

Finally, I really disliked the narrow minded view concerning intelligent design. There are valid problems with the evolutionary model that can never be addressed if scientists constantly close the door to new ideas. See "The G.O.D. Experiments" and Robert Gentry's work.

Shame on you, atheists, for supporting a movie that is so morally and intellectually bankrupt just for the sake of cheap laughs at the expense of us Christians. I hope some of you will have the decency to stand with Christians on this.

    Passionately ambivalent,

  20. Frankly, its just a movie. If you don't like it then don't watch it. I don't think the only motivation for not ridiculing other religions was purely because Christianity is the most "popular religion" in this country and had more to do with a fear of retribution for poking fun at Judaism or Islam. Hollywood knows that Christians will sit on their hands when they are made fun of while Jews and Muslims won't. I mean I don't understand what the uproar or surprise is about..Hollywood has been making fun of Christianity for years. Is it right no not really ; its not right to make fun of anybody's beliefs but they spent the money to make the movie ; you don't have to spend your money or time to watch it. These drawn out diatribes for either camp are really just a waste. Really that upset then do something.

  21. I have to say, I thought the movie was really funny and I was so excited to see it. But when they drove into the trailer park (or whatever it was im not sure) then i was just thinking...oh no, here we go. And I was right in thinking that, because all of that God and Jesus and christian bashing was not cool or funny at all. And it was too bad because I was so excited to see it, and I liked the three actors in it! (Seth Rogen included) I love God and Jesus, and I'm not ashamed of that at all. And I'm very proud to be a christian. Someone asked me if I thought that the movie was funny, I was like, "yeah, some parts." and even then, I felt bad for saying that so I apologized to God. This movie took it way too far with even the FIRST joke. And all of you that are saying that christians are ridiculous, you don't change the way I love or believe in God. Except for in the way of my love for God growing even stronger. <3

I would like to propose that religious beliefs be placed in the DSM as a category of mental illness for the following reasons:

    (1) Hallucinations - the person has invisible friends who (s)he insists are real, and to whom (s)he speaks daily, even though nobody can actually see or hear
    these friends.

    (2) Delusions - the patient believes that the invisible friends have magical powers to make them rich, cure cancer, bring about world peace, and will do so eventually if asked.

    (3) Denial/Inability to learn - though the requests for world peace remain unanswered, even after hundreds of years, the patients persist with the praying behaviour, each time expecting different results.CONTROVERSY: Islamic Fundamentalism Explained

    (4) Inability to distinguish fantasy from reality - the beliefs are contingent upon ancient mythology being accepted as historical fact.

    (5) Paranoia - the belief that anyone who does not share their supernatural concept of reality is "evil," "the devil," "an agent of Satan".

    (6) Emotional abuse - religious concepts such as sin, hell, cause feelings of guilt, shame, fear, and other types of emotional "baggage" which can scar the
psyche for life.FEATURED ARTICLE: Self-Abuse: The New-Age Anorexia

    (7) Violence - many patients insist that others should share in their delusions, even to the extent of using violence.

  28. I am a Christian and an American. The atheists, agnostics, and other religions as well have the right to believe what they want and therefore I am not going to bash anyone's religion because God would not want that in me (PS that was not to push my religion on anyone). I would respect though if people would not insult Christianity. Paul had a small part of ridiculing it and therefore I did not appreciate it. It was insulting and disrespectful. I will not watch it again. And if you are atheist or agonstic, that's your business. If you are a Christian, Jewish, Islam, etc, then thats your business. But leave out attacking religion. Its personal and therefore should be left alone. Anyone who disagrees with this, then I am sorry. But its the truth.

  33. ok ,here is my point! I don't have or need to say anything bad to anyone on this board. I feel it's my job to warn other Christians agianst wasting their money on a movie that will only offend them. If anyone else wants to watch the movie thats up to them. I will not judge you for your choice. The only thing I think Christains should do in this case is stand by and be open and willing to answers questions people might have after watching this movie. I do think that it is a terrible thing also that a lot of parents do not preview what there young ones are watching. The people who are posting if you dont want to watch it then dont are 100% correct. I just think it is only fair that they get a warning before hand.

  38. You know what? It's pointless to continue bashing Christians and atheists alike. I'm a Christian and am proud of it but there is no point in having to insult one another for their beliefs. Doing so will just cause more disrespect among people. Besides, while I did find this movie offensive, I made the mistake of deciding to watch this without looking into it and so I got offended. If I had known, I probably would not have watched it.
People have the choice to watch these kinds of movies or not. For Christians, they can choose to watch this movie and it will just end up as a stumbling block. Might as well just avoid it.

P.S. IMO, I wish that Pegg would've been a bit more discreet if he wanted to make fun of Christians ...unless his whole purpose was to insult the people who believe in God. The movie did feel like a slap to the face, personally. But hey...turn the other cheek anyway. :/

Well I believe in God, Paul looked like a funny film, I did not like the God bashing, I dont know if aliens exist, but am intrested in the idea, God created us, if you believe in evolution maybe you could tell me what you evolved from ?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Was so looking forward to this film, and it was a pretty big let down. The swears and profanity (which can be hilarious) were used with the skill of a 14 year old who thinks swearing is "cool."

And then randomly we bring in the "poster children" for Christianity; a drunk, clearly abusive father and his...one...eyed...daughter. Really? I was half expecting her to reveal that her Dad was also her half-brother. I mean why not? They're already stupid, ignorant, and drunk. Might as well make them inbred.

    (SPOILER!!)
    (SPOILER!!)

    Then there's the scene
Where Paul is arguing with her in the R.V. She kneels down and starts singing "Amazing Grace"
It was like the guys who wrote her character were the same guys who write every example of a "hacker" or "gamer" in TV/movies. Writer A: You know anything about Christians/Religion?" Writer B: "They sing and shit I think. Oh! and kneel, I've heard they kneel while doing it." Writer A: "Good enough for me."

Then the Pièce de résistance comes when Paul, clearly frustrated with her, places his palm on her head and downloads his collective knowledge into her brain. (At the end of the movie Paul sort of apologizes for this and she replies with "Don't, you freed me.")Does this knowledge make her more creative, intelligent, or a genius? No. It only removes her zealot Christian ideology, and makes her a much better love interest for Pegg's character.

I could literally hear every Atheist watching this movie masturbating vigorously while saying "OMG! I wish I could do that to EVERY Christian I met!" "I'd be all, BAM! knowledge and logic bitch!"

The above anon poster is correct. When a zealot Christian forces his/her beliefs down your throat, it is rude, condescending, and very very irritating, but you know what? It feels exactly the same when a zealot Atheist does the same thing.

Compared to Frost and Pegg's other works this movie is shit.

    ReplyDelete
  42. While I respect your views, I must post an opposing viewpoint, of which I am anticipating heavy criticism.

The Creationist characters in 'Paul' are nothing more than fictional characters. While I am in no way saying you are, it seems if you are so radically opposed to these stereotypes, you probably are one.

Also of note, to the person that said about the bootleg. Does the bible not claim "Though shalt not steal"? Someone's been a bad Christian.

While I respect the rights of SOME (in no way all) of the Christian faith to effectively "pick and choose" which parts of the bible to follow at will (bootleg person), it's a movie. It's not real. Movies poke fun at people. The Creationist characters are exceptionally similar to those you may see in the "Bible Belt".

As for the first comment, Simon Pegg has no need to 'make it big' in Hollywood. After appearing in a Star Trek movie, and some of the Mission Impossible franchise, he's already there.

I saw the line "you freed me" as more of a reference to her father than anything else. Her father seemed like her kidnapper, she seemed saved. Nothing more in my opinion. However, people shouldn't be so frantically hurt by a movie of all things. We all know there are far worse things going on than a fictional movie about an alien.

I have no way to stop any Christian believing in God. However, if you are going to swear by the Bible, you can't pick and choose what you want to believe in. You can't steal, and you certainly can't treat people of other religions the way I have seen in previous posts. All I can say to you is to get on with your lives. Movies are movies, (most of) reality is not like this. Anyone with a brain would know that.

    ReplyDelete
  43. funny how the none believers cant be nice at all. Every comment they made was to insult or bash, even oking others bashing. If that is what it means to be atheist or any other non-believer type than i am glad i am a believer. 44. I am an ex-Christian agnostic-atheist, and I believe in only one thing: tolerance. I agree that it took the Christian bashing a bit too far. After all, it is a British film, and Britain is largely non-religious and many are also anti-American. However, there is hypocrisy on both sides. Theists criticize atheists just as much as atheists criticize theists. It's natural and human. The Christians commenting on here want to make themselves out to be the good ones while atheists are the bigots. That couldn't be farther from the truth. There are just as many Christians who express contempt and hatred towards atheists, the opposite of what their sacred text preaches. Christian propaganda is everywhere in America and the mass media, so when something diverts from that it's natural to feel shocked. My point is, being someone who vividly remembers what it was like to be a faithful Christian everyone should be tolerant of each other's beliefs; other people's lives are ultimately none of your business. And don't be a hypocrite.

  47. Here is what I am saying. Evolution and intelligent design are both "theories."

Christians have enslaved non-believers in the name of religion; just like the Darwinists sterilized and segregated people in the name of natural selection.

Either way, GOD exists. people exploit religion and science for their own propaganda.

  48. I am a Christian, Catholic actually, and being one I know that unfortunately many of us are extremely ignorant, and not just to the conflicting principles of science but to our own religion. You can call me a bad Christian for saying this, but to an extent I have some difficulty with people who take whatever stories are shoved down their throats as the absolute and complete truth.

All I'm saying is, if you truly want to believe in something as faithfully and devoutly as many of us claim we do, shouldn't you do so because you have sought your own answers to those greater questions of life? I mean, some of the comments I've read where Christians rebut arguments with things like "I don't care what common sense tells me I swear I love God" - it just makes it sound like you have been brainwashed, or that you're just afraid of what God will do to you if you dare to take other peoples' arguments into consideration (which I think is the worst reason to believe in something).

The only reason I still believe in God to this day is because I have taken everything into consideration, science and philosophical thought as well as my own faith, and I am satisfied and fulfilled with feeling like I took the time to find my own answers instead of having someone tell me what they 'know' the answers to be.

We should never be afraid to question. This goes for Atheists as well as people with a belief system. Science can tell us so much but yet so little, we have to open ourselves to the possibility of data that is not empirical having as much importance.

As for the movie, like many people said, it's not like this is the first time Christianity/religion has been bashed. Actually pretty much all science fiction does this, which is why it was sort of funny people were so upset over this movie in particular.

And honestly, it's a comedy. Comedy's favorite things to do is make fun of sensitive topics. Homosexuality, religion, death. They just figure while one half of the theater is pissed off the other side will be laughing that much harder.

    ReplyDelete
  49. First off good movie inspite of the anit-Christian stuff. Everyone has an opinion and are free to express it. Unfortunately opinions are laced with stereotypes. Sterotypes are bad right? Except of course when the sterotype involves Christians right? Its all ok to be predjudice against Christians!
Yup there's agressive zealots on either end, the current Sat Night live crew(Catherine and the agents and hillbillys) are bought and paid for by aethiest-communist zealots who think its funny to shoot a Christian man in the head!

The communist writers of "Paul" left out of the screenplay this one simple fact: no matter how friggin advanced scientifically Paul & his alien species are, they are still finite and limited in their knowing of the entire Universe and all of science as a complete whole! They can't prove the existance of a supreme God anymore than any Christian Human can, and therefore they can't disprove it either! Its called FAITH for a reason! I love all these whack hacks who say that evolution disproves God, they ought to read up on thermodynamics! Without a designed order to life, randomness and entropy would NOT ALLOW evelotuion of a more complex system from a less complex system! I have nothing against evolution, but without a design behind it its crap! Randomness is 50/50 at best. It garenties failure! "Oh lets just throw some more time at it aye, give a couple billion years and it'll sort itself out!" No freinds, give randomoness more time and you got more FUBAR! Ever watch a kid start mixing crayons? The mixing starts to look pretty doesn't it, but the longer the kid randomly scribbles the less focused and monochromatic the art, it becomes more and more broken down and simplefied!
    Entropy's a bitch aye!

Actors and writers fall along a continuim of politics, Simon Peg and Nick Frost are clearly at the more diabolical end of the left-communist hack wing! Peg sucks as an actor! I was going to be an extra in the "bar fight" scene. I turned it down, I'm glad I did!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Ok, the actors icluding Peg all were pretty good, and yeh it was a feel good movie inspite of the anti-theology theme. It was simplistic in story but that's the nature of it being a light hearted comedy.

Yes yes, the Holy Roman Catholic Church as a Gov't entity allied with Spain during the pre-colonial days were tyrants toward the southwest Pueblo people, so much that they fought back during the Pueblo revolt! Twisted Christian beliefs as part of manifest desitany also allowed for rationalising the holocost of much of Native American people! Its taken too long for America to realise the truth of "All Men(People) Are Created Equall," but the words are still true and thank God these words are still with us! Religeon as a law-making part of Gov't is wrong! But any individual publically professing any type of faith be they political leaders or not IS ALLOWED under our constitution! Aethiest would have us all believe that to be fare to all religeons, our leaders should be required to be aethiest! No your creetens, that would mean that our political system should be biased towards the aetheist faith! Our Gov't is made up of people, and people according to our constitution are allowed to have a faith of their choice, and being sincere in your faith means that you will not be ashamed of expressing it whether its against the law or not, cause expressing aspects of ourselves icluding our beliefs is what makes us human!

  53. First of all, oh dear. Christianity has been the 'justification' behind almost every colonisation and genocide by European peoples since the religion was invented. The main reason the Romans persecuted Christians was because, as a pagan empire, there were so many Gods and faiths that tolerance was a necessity for peace, in fact it was law. Christians not only freaked everyone out with their fetus and menstruation eating rituals of certain early sects, but are as a pre-requisite fiercely intolerant of others and so pissed everyone off.

Back on the subject at hand, the film was not poking fun at all Christians, it just had a couple of small jibes at the American bible-belt maniacs. The exact kind the guys on here are managing to portray beautifully by whinging that the film is 'homosexual propoganda' because it mentions it a few times, despite only the alien indicating he's anything other than straight.

Great, hilarious film about aliens with a load of fantastic geeky film references. Nothing more. Get over yourselves and enjoy the nicer side of religion a bit more, whichever god you believe in.

  54. The atheists' ignorance on this page is ridiculous. Paul was clearly a lowkey atheistic movie, END OF STORY...

  55. As long as you don't mock Judaism or Muslim, you can make it in Hollywood.

Not that making fun of christians isn't rewarding on it's own, but ... fuck muslims, they need to have their tree shaken too.

  56. This film was not designed to piss religious people off it was designed to pay respect to all the sci fi films...

If you actually did research and recognised the references within the film towards great sci fi films then you know it wasnt designed to mock christianity.

I cant deny that it had a role within the film as when you reference Sci fi, religion will always be a factor within it as they counter act each other.

So will all the fucktard religious nuts stop slating this amazingly funny, well written film and go back to sitting in a church praying to a fluffy faggot in the sky that is controlling your life.

It is only americans who seem to dislike this as all my christian mates in UK find it hilarious, stop being a nation that believes a god is on their side and their side only.. Your a new nation in the grand schemes of things so why would he side with you? if anyone it would be italy and lets be honest their economy is fucked aswell as other things so this GOD isnt really watching over them...

they always say end on a good quote

"I'd like to thank God for making me an atheist" - Ricky Gervais

  58. Look, atheists...
Not all of us Christians are like the ones portrayed within 'Paul'. We aren't all religious fanatics that want to force you into Christianity. Honest. I, personally, believe than God used evolution to create humanity. This is because I can't ignore the facts- evolution has been more-or-less proved right. However, has the existence of God been proved wrong? I think not. So, you can choose what you want to believe, as there is no proof of God, and no proof of there being no God. So please, lets just agree to disagree. And stop the stereotyping, it's really annoying.
