Illegal immigrant, Jorge Mariscal gets kidney, pissed at America for having to pay.

This article shows the all entitled feeling of illegal immigrants who think everything is right and they shouldn't have to pay for it.
As an illegal immigrant, Jorge Mariscal waited eight years for a kidney transplant he feared would never come.

His persistence paid off Thursday when he underwent the procedure at Loyola University Medical Center.

After years of uncertainties, Mariscal said he's excited about his future and grateful for the help he received. But he remains frustrated with a health care system that he worries might leave out an untold number of illegal immigrants in need of lifesaving treatments.

"Why can't we be treated the same?" he asked while sitting in his hospital room. "Health care should be a human right, not a privilege. At least give us the chance to fight for our lives with dignity."

You are an illegal immigrant who was brought over here by your parents who broke the law and now you demand free medicine? Go screw yourself. Why doesn't mexico pay for it? Once again America is the whore of the world being used by johns like this for their benefits.

WSJ - The Fantasy of a 91% Top Income Tax Rate

Great piece by Peter Schiff that points out how this other piece of falsehood has taken hold over basically low info and stupid people in America about the 91% tax rate back in the day helped America.
True enough, the top marginal income-tax rate in the 1950s was much higher than today's top rate of 35%—but the share of income paid by the wealthiest Americans has essentially remained flat since then.

In 1958, the top 3% of taxpayers earned 14.7% of all adjusted gross income and paid 29.2% of all federal income taxes. In 2010, the top 3% earned 27.2% of adjusted gross income and their share of all federal taxes rose proportionally, to 51%.

So if the top marginal tax rate has fallen to 35% from 91%, how in the world has the tax burden on the wealthy remained roughly the same? Two factors are responsible. Lower- and middle-income workers now bear a significantly lighter burden than in the past. And the confiscatory top marginal rates of the 1950s were essentially symbolic—very few actually paid them. In reality the vast majority of top earners faced lower effective rates than they do today.

....The tax code of the 1950s allowed upper-income Americans to take exemptions and deductions that are unheard of today. Tax shelters were widespread, and not just for the superrich. The working wealthy—including doctors, lawyers, business owners and executives—were versed in the art of creating losses to lower their tax exposure.

For instance, a doctor who earned $50,000 through his medical practice could reduce his taxable income to zero with $50,000 in paper losses or depreciation from property he owned through a real-estate investment partnership. Huge numbers of professionals signed up for all kinds of money-losing schemes. Today, a corresponding doctor earning $500,000 can deduct a maximum of $3,000 from his taxable income, no matter how large the loss.

Those 1950s gambits lowered tax liabilities but dissuaded individuals from engaging in the more beneficial activities of increasing their incomes and expanding their businesses. As a result, they were a net drag on the economy. When Ronald Reagan finally lowered rates in the 1980s, he did so in exchange for scrapping uneconomical deductions. When business owners stopped trying to figure out how to lose money, the economy boomed.

Obama’s Plan to Tax Rich, $250,000 Figure May Mislead

NYTIMES points out how Obama is playing on the ignorant 98% of Americans who think tax the rich actually means something when in fact only 2% of the population makes over $250,000 and only 1% will be hit by any higher taxes.
President Obama’s insistence that marginal tax rates rise for families making more than $250,000 has convinced millions of affluent Americans that they are likely to be writing larger checks to the government next year.

But many of those families have no reason to fret.

A close look at the president’s plan shows that a large majority of families making up to $300,000 — as well as hundreds of thousands of families with even larger incomes — would not pay taxes at a higher marginal rate.

Because the complexity of the tax code makes it difficult to draw clean lines, they are the beneficiaries of choices the administration has made to ensure that families earning less than $250,000 do not pay higher rates.

Some of those affluent households would pay higher taxes next year under other parts of the president’s tax plan and increases imposed by the Affordable Care Act, but not under the centerpiece, the part most frequently promoted by the president and most bitterly opposed by Congressional Republicans.

....Furthermore, to remain consistent with the president’s original promise, the administration has adjusted the original numbers for inflation. When Mr. Obama says $250,000, the White House says he means “in 2009 dollars.” It is now proposing to raise marginal rates on families with taxable incomes above $246,000 — meaning, on average, families earning more than about $305,000.

While the president has said that he wants to raise tax rates for the top 2 percent, only about 1 percent of taxpayers will face higher marginal rates, according to an analysis by the Tax Policy Center, a widely respected research group.
This is why the GOP fight on the hill over this makes zero sense because the taxes being touted here as getting the rich is basically a sham except for the 1% too stupid to get good accountants.

Jezebel/feminists celebrate DreamWorks Animation 85% women producers.

At DreamWorks Animation, the proverbial C-suite and creative stables are filled with a disproportionate number for a studio of the fairer sex. Among top-tier management, Jeffrey Katzenberg's Nos. 2, 4 and 5 are female: COO Ann Daly, chief accounting officer Heather O'Connor and worldwide marketing chief Anne Globe, respectively.

"Much of our senior leadership and over 85 percent of our producers are women, and we couldn't be prouder of their accomplishments," says Katzenberg. Those producers include Mireille Soria (the Madagascar franchise) and Rise of the Guardians' Christina Steinberg and Nancy Bernstein.

Other news. Dreamworks Animation stock has dropped to a 52 week low on December 3rd. Good job on Rise of the Guardians which is estimated to take a 50 million dollar loss.

Darden says it won't reduce full-time staff -- for now

They will wait until the pub dies down and then after the current(key word)full timers turnover, they will not fill those positions and then start dropping insurances so you can go on obamacare. Its going to happen people. All these boycotts and bitching is useless in the end.
At least for now, Darden Restaurants says it doesn't plan to scale back on full-time workers as a way to avoid paying more under looming federal health-care reforms.

Orlando-based Darden made that assurance Thursday in the wake of a public-relations backlash over an experiment it conducted to limit employee hours at some Olive Gardens, Red Lobsters and LongHorn Steakhouses.

The company "always had a significant number of full-time employees and they are integral to our success. The data we have collected during our test around guest satisfaction and employee engagement has only reinforced this," Chief Executive Officer Clarence Otis said in a news release.

The company would not agree to an interview and did not answer most emailed questions about its staffing, including whether restaurants that had been relying much more heavily on part-timers would now add more full-time staff.

Much of Darden's testing affected newly hired employees.

Matt Damon claims he didn't know Middle East funding his anti fracking movie

Matt Damon has to know where the money is coming from right? He is a smart guy. I can understand the guy from the office being an ignorant slut about it.

Actor Matt Damon was surprised to learn his new anti-natural gas fracking movie was funded in part by Mideast oil nation the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Hydraulic fracking is a technique used to get natural gas out of the ground which could help make domestic natural gas a cheaper competitor to foreign oil.

"The Promised Land," starring Damon and John Krasinski of "The Office," is being financed in part by Image Nation, a film company completely owned and operated by the government of the UAE.

Damon was asked about the foreign-oil funding by documentary director Phelim McAleer at a Dec. 3 promotional event in New York. McAleer, who is directing the upcoming pro-fracking film "Frack Nation," asked Damon:

"How does it feel to be a fully-paid advocate for an oil-rich Middle Eastern government - and, doesn't that really negate any artistic credibility... that 'The Promised Land" might have?"

Damon, who also serves as writer and producer on the movie, replied, "[T]he first time we were aware that Image Nation was involved with our movie was when we saw the rough cut and saw their logo."

Damon explained that part of the funding comes from Participant Media which has a "blind slate deal" with Image Nation that pays for ten percent of all of Participant's films. Participant is known for making liberal issue movies such as "Food Inc.," "Syriana," and "An Inconvenient Truth."

Obama opposes Michigan becoming right to work state.

Of course he does.

President Barack Obama has repeated his opposition to right-to-work laws as the Republican-controlled Michigan Legislature moved toward adopting the union-curbing measure.

The Michigan House voted Thursday to approve a bill barring unions from collecting mandatory fees from non-members. The Senate also took up the bill, and Republican Gov. Rick Snyder endorsed it Thursday.

White House spokesman Matt Lehrich says Obama has long opposed right to work laws, “and he continues to oppose them now.”

The spokesman says Obama believes the economy “is stronger when workers get good wages and good benefits, and he opposes attempts to roll back their rights.”

Michigan becomes right to work state

The right to choose if you want to join a union or not seems very American, why would Obama oppose it?
Amid chants of "shame on you, shame on you" from angry protestors in the gallery above, Republicans in the Senate also approved right-to-work legislation this evening, about three and half hours after House Republicans voted through similar legislation to make Michigan the 24th state with a right-to-work law.

The Michigan Senate passed their first bill by a 22-16 vote, with Democrats and a few Republicans voting against it. A separate bill approving right-to-work strictly for public-sector workers passed a few minutes afterward by a 22-4 vote. The chamber's 12 Democrats walked off the floor in protest and were purposely absent for that vote.
Due to legislative rules, each chamber must consider the bill for at least five days before voting. Given the Republican control, the legislation is all-but-certain to become law by the end of next week.

The House vote also fell mostly along party lines, 58-52, with all Democrats and some Republicans opposing it. Democratic House floor leader Kate Segal, D-Battle Creek, said she would ask to reconsider the vote on HB 4054 during the next day of session, but that decision will be up to Speaker Jase Bolger, R-Marshall

Cory Booker's Food Stamp Challenge is stupid

Anyone who praises him is also stupid. Food stamps are not supposed to be easy to live on because you are not supposed to be on it. Cory Booker and others food stamp challenge is just myopic self preening for the publicity to show they "care."

China to flatten 700 mountains for new metropolis

China doesn't care about your enviro concerns. China wants a city, China gets a city.
In what is being billed as the largest "mountain-moving project" in Chinese history, oneof China's biggest construction firms will spend £2.2bn to flatten 700 mountains levelling the area Lanzhou, allowing developers to build a new metropolis on the outskirts of the north-western city.

The Lanzhou New Area, 500 square miles (130,000 hectares) of land 50 miles from the city, which is the provincial capital of arid Gansu province, could increase the region's gross domestic product to £27bn by 2030, according to the state-run China Daily. It has already attracted almost £7bn of corporate investment.

The project will be China's fifth "state-level development zone" and the first in the country's rapidly developing interior, according to state media reports. Others include Shanghai's Pudong and Tianjin's Binhai, home to a half-built, 120-building replica of Manhattan. China's state council, its highest administrative authority, approved the Lanzhou project in August.

The first stage of the mountain-flattening initiative, which was reported on Tuesday by the China Economic Weekly magazine, began in late October and will eventually enable a new urban district almost 10 square miles in size northeast of downtown Lanzhou – a small, but important part of the Lanzhou Nnew area project to be built.

T-Mobile Will End Subsidies Next Year.

If they can drop the plan prices even more and put on a monthly payment plan on the phones, this could be a gamechanger.
T-Mobile will end smartphone subsidies in 2013 CEO John Legere said today in a presentation to analysts. We first spotted the video on GigaOm.

This means you'll have to pay full price for your phone or bring in an unlocked device. The upside is that T-Mobile will charge you less for your service plan.

However, things will be a bit different once T-Mobile starts selling the iPhone next year. Legere said T-Mobile will likely sell the iPhone for $99 up front, then charge you an extra $15 to $20 per month over 20 months to pay off the rest of the device.

Most carriers today will only charge you about $200 for a smartphone if you agree to a two-year contract. The carriers pay the manufacturer the rest of the price up front, and your expensive service plan pays the carrier back in turn over that two-year period. T-Mobile's new approach for 2013 is to keep your data/voice/texting plan cheap, but require you to pay for the full cost of the phone up front.

U.S. closer to being major natural gas exporter

The D.O.E says the benefits outweigh the costs, so how fast will Obama and his admin try to stop it?
The United States is one step closer to becoming a major exporter of natural gas.

A long awaited report from the Energy Department issued Wednesday said the benefits of exporting the gas far outweigh the costs.

The report clears the way for the approval of of up 15 pending natural gas export facilities -- multi-billion dollar projects situated mostly along the Gulf and Mid Atlantic coasts.

The projects are controversial, with critics saying they will raise the cost of natural gas and electricity for consumers and industry, and increase the use of hydraulic fracturing -- or fracking -- a method of extracting oil and gas that some say is contaminating the ground water.

NYTIMES pushes Latino kids need Latino books to read better.

I grew up in the Caribbean, my books and shows were mostly the white British variety that kicked all sorts of ass. As a black child it didn't hurt my ability to read better because I had parents that wouldn't tolerate me failing to learn how to read. The idea that Latino or any minority would be better served seeing the same color as them in a book to get better educated is politically correct garbage.
Like many of his third-grade classmates, Mario Cortez-Pacheco likes reading the “Magic Tree House” series, about a brother and a sister who take adventurous trips back in time. He also loves the popular “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” graphic novels.

But Mario, 8, has noticed something about these and many of the other books he encounters in his classroom at Bayard Taylor Elementary here: most of the main characters are white. “I see a lot of people that don’t have a lot of color,” he said.

Hispanic students now make up nearly a quarter of the nation’s public school enrollment, according to an analysis of census data by the Pew Hispanic Center, and are the fastest-growing segment of the school population. Yet nonwhite Latino children seldom see themselves in books written for young readers. (Dora the Explorer, who began as a cartoon character, is an outlier.)

Education experts and teachers who work with large Latino populations say that the lack of familiar images could be an obstacle as young readers work to build stamina and deepen their understanding of story elements like character motivation.

While there are exceptions, including books by Julia Alvarez, Pam Muñoz Ryan, Alma Flor Ada and Gary Soto, what is available is “not finding its way into classrooms,” said Patricia Enciso, an associate professor at Ohio State University. Books commonly read by elementary school children — those with human characters rather than talking animals or wizards — include the Junie B. Jones, Cam Jansen, Judy Moody, Stink and Big Nate series, all of which feature a white protagonist. An occasional African-American, Asian or Hispanic character may pop up in a supporting role, but these books depict a predominantly white, suburban milieu.

“Kids do have a different kind of connection when they see a character that looks like them or they experience a plot or a theme that relates to something they’ve experienced in their lives,” said Jane Fleming, an assistant professor at the Erikson Institute, a graduate school in early childhood development in Chicago.

UK- One in five young prisoners are Muslim

Via the Guardian who didn't spin it as a form of islamophobia.
The proportion of offenders in youth jails who are Muslim is rising sharply and they now account for more than one-fifth of all inmates, the chief inspector of prisons has said. Nick Hardwick said the figure had risen from 13% in 2009-10 to 21% in 2011-12.

He said that while they were less likely to say they felt unsafe in youth jails and more likely to say they were treated with respect, they still felt they were treated significantly worse than non-Muslims.

"They reported that they were more likely to have been restrained, more likely to be victimised by staff and found it more difficult to stay in touch with friends and families," says the chief inspector in a joint report with the Youth Justice Board.

Hardwick said the number of children and young inmates had continued to fall and stood at 1,543 youths aged 15 to 18.

French men sperm count surrender another 32%

The jokes are way too easy at this point.
The sperm count of French men fell by a third between 1989 and 2005, a study suggests.

The semen of more than 26,600 French men was tested in the study, reported in the journal Human Reproduction.

The number of millions of spermatozoa per millilitre fell by 32.3%, a rate of about 1.9% a year. And the percentage of normally shaped sperm fell by 33.4%.

The average sperm count remained within the fertile range, but experts want to see more research into possible causes.

One of the paper's authors, Dr Joelle Le Moal, an environmental health epidemiologist, said: "To our knowledge, this is the first study concluding a severe and general decrease in sperm concentration and morphology at the scale of a whole country over a substantial period.

"This constitutes a serious public health warning."

Guardian writer: Blacks getting killed because of murderous racism

Mychal Denzel Smith is yet another example of the new generation of Toure like pseudo intellects of black writers who use the killing of a black youth by a white guy as prime of example of blacks getting killed by evil white people.

Jordan Davis' mother doesn't want the killing of her son to be looked at as a hate crime. The 17-year-old Davis, a black teenager, was shot and killed on 23 November by a 45-year-old white man named Michael Dunn, after what has been called a dispute over loud music.

According to reports, Dunn pulled into the parking lot of a convenience store where Davis and his friends were sitting in their car. The man asked the teens to turn their music down, at which point he and Davis exchanged words. Allegedly, Dunn then pulled out his gun and shot at the vehicle eight or nine times, hitting Davis twice.

.....Every few months, another young black person makes their way into our lives as a news headline as a result of racist violence, and still, we manage to look the other way. We yet lack the collective will to call it what it is. Whether it's Davis, Martin, Grant, Rekia Boyd, Ramarley Graham, Wendell Allen, or any of the other black people who lost their lives as the result of extrajudicial killing – one for every 36 hours in the first half of 2012.

We keep looking at their deaths in a vacuum – as the result of one unhinged killer, a lone actor who, once locked away, will eliminate the problem. When do we stop lying to ourselves?

We have deluded ourselves into thinking that the post-civil rights/Obama era is one in which racism either doesn't exist or is waning to the point of irrelevance. Whether or not things are "better" starts to feel inconsequential when "better" still means young black people aren't safe in their own skin. We haven't come to grips with the fact that America is a fundamentally racist society. Racism built this country into what we know it to be today. It takes more than observing a Martin Luther King Jr holiday and electing a black president to unwind such deepseated bigotry. We can't eradicate it if we can't name it, and so long as we refuse to name it, more Jordans, more Trayvons and more Oscars will die. Their blood is on our hands, and we've become so self-satisfied, we don't even bother to wash it off. We keep moving as if they never existed.

So the mom doesn't want it to be a hate crime but this smith fella is ready to use this killing as a wedge to say look at all the black youths getting killed by racists. Here is the problem with this sort of black racist thinking according to facts.

As a black man, I am more inclined to get shot by a WIDE margin walking out the door every day by another black person. These cases of white killing blacks while juicy media stories are not the norm. In that case how about we start touting the amount of black on white murders since that may be a form of racism according to smith's logic that these hate crimes exist every day in society?

Cheering U.N. Palestine Vote, Liberal American Jews Argue.

Not surprising that there is a large segment of American Jews who would cheer this on.Its much easier to do so over here than in Israel where you have rockets coming at you almost every day.
Congregation B’nai Jeshurun, a large synagogue on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, is known for its charismatic rabbis, its energetic and highly musical worship, and its liberal stances on social causes.

But on Friday, when its rabbis and lay leaders sent out an e-mail enthusiastically supporting the vote by the United Nations to upgrade Palestine to a nonmember observer state, the statement was more than even some of its famously liberal congregants could stomach.

“The vote at the U.N. yesterday is a great moment for us as citizens of the world,” said the e-mail, which was sent to all congregants. “This is an opportunity to celebrate the process that allows a nation to come forward and ask for recognition.”

The statement, at a time when the United Nations’ vote was opposed by the governments of the United States and Israel, as well as by the leadership of many American Jewish organizations, reflected a divide among American Jews and a willingness to publicly disagree with Israel.

Clergy at several Jewish congregations have, in various ways, spoken out sympathetically about the United Nations’ vote. But B’nai Jeshurun stood out because of its size and prominence, and reaction from congregants was swift. Allan Ripp, a member, said he and his wife were appalled.

“We are just sort of in a state of shock,” he said. “It’s not as if we don’t support a two-state solution, but to say with such a warm embrace — it is like a high-five to the P.L.O., and that has left us numb.”

Other congregants, however, said it was a bold move that they welcomed.

“I thought it was very courageous of them,” said Gil Kulick, a congregant. “I think as of late there has been a reluctance to speak out on this issue,” he added, “and that’s why I was really delighted that they chose to take a strong unequivocal stand.”

American Jews have long had a vigorous, and sometimes vitriolic, debate about the positions of the Israeli government and the peace process with the Palestinians. But the tendency has been to keep critical views within the fold.

NYTIMES- GOP seeks fallback position on fiscal cliff.

The GOP leadership is pathetic. Any conservative blog could have told you that the Dems would be more than happy for the automatics cuts to happen because it hurts the military while raising taxes on everyone else which the GOP would get blamed for in the end.

Now they are boxed in so no matter what they get the blame.
Senator Olympia J. Snowe of Maine, who is retiring, joined a handful of other Republicans on Tuesday suggesting that Congress should pass the middle-class tax cut extensions now, then leave the fight over taxes and spending until later. Americans, she said, “should not even be questioning that we will ultimately raise taxes on low- to middle-income people.” Congress could take that off the table “while you’re grappling with tax cuts for the wealthy,” she said.

But any move toward compromise with Democrats on fiscal issues quickly comes under attack from conservatives as a surrender and unsettles the rank and file.

It is a dynamic that has haunted Speaker John A. Boehner throughout the 112th Congress, as he has repeatedly been caught between the imperative to govern and the need to satisfy the restive right. Mr. Boehner, of Ohio, has drawn fire this week for removing a handful of House Republicans who have defied the leadership from their preferred committee seats, a step he took to enforce party discipline.

Mr. Obama made clear on Tuesday in an interview with Bloomberg News that he was not going to budge on raising tax rates on income over $250,000. “We’re going to have to see the rates on the top 2 percent go up,” Mr. Obama said in his first interview since his re-election, “and we’re not going to be able to get a deal without it.”

Allowing an extension only of the middle-class tax cuts is just one possibility, and Congress may never get to that point if an agreement can be reached or if another alternative can be found. And it would be a bitter pill for Republicans to swallow since they have repeatedly called for an extension of all the expiring tax cuts, saying any increases could harm the economy.

But Republicans also know they have a problem: many liberal Democrats are more than willing to return to the Clinton-era tax code, and to allow across-the-board spending cuts to take effect, which disproportionately affect the military, rather than compromise too much with Republicans after the strong Democratic showing in the elections.

“It’s a terrible position because by default, Democrats get what they want,” said Representative James Lankford, Republican of Oklahoma, who admitted his party is boxed in.

Here is the solution. Let the damn taxes on the $250,000 level go up just like Obama wants and constantly say to the public Obama got what he wanted out of it. Then when the economy goes south just point to the Dems and Obama.

Wisconsin Judge Orders Deadbeat Dad Of Nine (With Six Women) To Stop Procreating

At some point isn't there some blame towards the women for screwing someone who has children with multiple women? I can see the first two women with kids but 3-9 should have enough common sense to see this guy and say no.
Meet Corey Curtis.

The Wisconsin man, who has fathered nine children with six women, was ordered yesterday to cease procreating until he can support his numerous offspring.

At Curtis’s sentencing yesterday for bail jumping and failure to pay child support, Circuit Court Judge Tim Boyle told the 44-year-old Racine man that his frequent breeding was to be curbed as a condition of his three-year probation term.

Curtis owes about $90,000 total in back child support and interest to the mothers of his children. Pictured in the above mug shot, Curtis will have to wipe out that debt before he can add heir number ten, ruled Boyle.

Jason Whitlock: NRA is the new KKK in the black community.

Whitlock at this point is just trolling because anyone who believes that the NRA is responsible for the choices made by black youth in this country especially in ghetto communities is stupid.
WHITLOCK: Sports gets so much attention, and people tune out the real world, that I try to take advantage of the opportunity to talk about the real world when sports lends itself to that and try to open people’s eyes. You know, I did not go as far as I’d like to go because my thoughts on the NRA and America’s gun culture – I believe the NRA is the new KKK. And that the arming of so many black youths, uh, and loading up our community with drugs, and then just having an open shooting gallery, is the work of people who obviously don’t have our best interests [at heart].

Telegraph - Amsterdam to create 'scum villages'

In America, we call these Detroit, Cleveland and Newark.
Holland's capital already has a special hit squad of municipal officials to identify the worst offenders for a compulsory six month course in how to behave.

Social housing problem families or tenants who do not show an improvement or refuse to go to the special units face eviction and homelessness.

Eberhard van der Laan, Amsterdam's Labour mayor, has tabled the £810,000 plan to tackle 13,000 complaints of anti-social behaviour every year. He complained that long-term harassment often leads to law abiding tenants, rather than their nuisance neighbours, being driven out.

"This is the world turned upside down," the mayor said at the weekend.

The project also involves setting up a special hotline and system for victims to report their problems to the authorities.

The new punishment housing camps have been dubbed "scum villages" because the plan echoes a proposal from Geert Wilders, the leader of a populist Dutch Right-wing party, for special units to deal with persistent troublemakers.

"Repeat offenders should be forcibly removed from their neighbourhood and sent to a village for scum," he suggested last year. "Put all the trash together."

Whilst denying that the new projects would be punishment camps for "scum", a spokesman for the city mayor stressed that the special residential units would aim to enforce good behaviour.

Reuters - South African women rights at risk as Zuma woos tribal chiefs

Well, this is certainly a step in the wrong direction for South Africa.
Traditional courts are the most accessible form of justice for poor, rural South Africans, and their power is growing, setting back the clock on women's rights in one of Africa's most progressive countries.

Their increasing influence is largely thanks to President Jacob Zuma, a proud Zulu who has four wives and a fondness for dancing dressed in a leopard skin cloak and a kilt of animal tails with a cow-hide shield and spear.

As Zuma fights for re-election as head of the African National Congress (ANC) in December and as president in 2014, he plans to make traditional courts the only option for millions of South Africans by denying them access to civil courts.

Zondi's eviction was not based on any statute, and it flew in the face of South Africa's post-apartheid constitution, which guarantees gender equality and outlaws "unfair discrimination". But that didn't make it any less real.

Remember when people thought the ANC would the shining light for all of Africa after coming into power? Good one.
The Traditional Courts Bill, which had its latest round of public hearings in September, would subject the 18 million South Africans who live in the homelands - where the tribal chiefs still exercise power - to this separate justice system.

Speaking to traditional leaders about the bill last month, Zuma lambasted South Africans opposing it for trying to be "too clever" and aping "the white man's way".

Critics say the bill will almost certainly be kicked out as unconstitutional, but they say the fact it is before parliament at all, and that at least one other bill boosting the power of traditional chiefs are planned, harks back to apartheid.

"It's going to take us back to prior to democracy when, as women, our rights were not recognized," said Priscilla Matsapola, a lawyer with People Against Women Abuse, a rights group that provides legal advice and other services to victims of abuse.

The white minority government that ruled the country before the first democratic elections in 1994 created the homelands as a dumping ground for black Africans in pursuit of its goal of a racially segregated South Africa.

Many of the black majority were evicted from their homes and squeezed onto 13 percent of the land where they were ruled by tribal chiefs co-opted into the white segregationists' scheme. Others lived in crowded townships round the cities.

"It's ironic that the democratic government should be moving towards realizing the goals of the apartheid government," said Sindiso Mnisi Weeks, a senior researcher at the University of Cape Town.

Walmart shifting health care costs to Obamacare and Medicaid

Shocker, here is a company among many other companies doing something that anyone could have predicted would happen when Obamacare became the law of the land.
Walmart, the nation’s largest private employer, plans to begin denying health insurance to newly hired employees who work fewer than 30 hours a week, according to a copy of the company’s policy obtained by The Huffington Post.

Under the policy, slated to take effect in January, Walmart also reserves the right to eliminate health care coverage for certain workers if their average workweek dips below 30 hours -- something that happens with regularity and at the direction of company managers.

Walmart declined to disclose how many of its roughly 1.4 million U.S. workers are vulnerable to losing medical insurance under its new policy. In an emailed statement, company spokesman David Tovar said Walmart had “made a business decision” not to respond to questions from The Huffington Post and accused the publication of unfair coverage.

Labor and health care experts portrayed Walmart’s decision to exclude workers from its medical plans as an attempt to limit costs while taking advantage of the national health care reform known as Obamacare. Among the key features of Obamacare is an expansion of Medicaid, the taxpayer-financed health insurance program for poor people. Many of the Walmart workers who might be dropped from the company’s health care plans earn so little that they would qualify for the expanded Medicaid program, these experts said.

BBC- Stem cells being made from blood

That works for me and without the moral arguments against it.

The team at the University of Cambridge says this could be one of the easiest and safest sources of stem cells.

In a study, published in the journal Stem Cells: Translational Medicine, the cells were used to build blood vessels.

However, experts cautioned that the safety of using such stem cells was still unclear.

Stem cells are one of the great hopes of medical research. They can transform into any other type of cell the body is built from - so they should be able to repair everything from the brain to the heart, and eyes to bone.

Illegal immigrants celebrate Obama's amnesty

Happy Happy Joy Joy. The entitled attitude is something America needs more of today right?

KANSAS CITY, Mo.– Emboldened by a new program that allows them to remain in the U.S., hundreds of undocumented youth at a conference Sunday decided that their next goal is to urge Washington to devise a policy that also brings their illegal-immigrant parents out of the shadows.

"As we celebrate our victory, we remember our moms and dads, uncles and aunts…who are still undocumented," Cristina Jimenez, managing director of United We Dream, which represents young undocumented people, told about 600 members here.

A celebratory mood dominated the weekend assembly of "Dreamers," as the youths call themselves. It was the first national gathering since their two-year campaign, which combined pressure on the White House with rallies that brought their cause before the American public, helped propel the Obama administration to offer them a reprieve from deportation and work authorization.

NYTIMES- Some economists say don't worry about higher taxes.

Since people are moving their money out of those things that will be taxed higher....wait...
As anxious investors assess their portfolios in light of expected tax increases on investment income, hedge fund manager Douglas Kass has a simple message: Relax.

Mr. Kass, the founder of Seabreeze Partners Management, thinks much of the investing world has overestimated how hard the markets and investors would be hit if tax rates on dividends and capital gains rise at the end of the year, as the White House has proposed.

Mr. Kass can look for support to several economists who have studied past changes in tax rates and found that the shifts had less of an impact on investor behavior than was initially expected.

That’s largely because a dwindling number of investors are subject to the taxes on investment gains that are set to rise at the end of the year, with most stocks held in accounts that are exempt from taxes.

For example, only 14.7 percent of American households have mutual funds in taxable accounts, down from as high as 23.9 percent in 2001, according to data from the Investment Company Institute.

Douglas A. Shackelford, an economist who has examined the 2003 legislation that lowered the tax rates on capital gains and dividends, said that when those changes were being put in place “people thought this would be revolutionary,” setting off a wave of changes in the way companies rewarded their investors, and how investors evaluated companies.

In the end, “it made a difference, but it certainly was not revolutionary,” said Mr. Shackelford, a professor of taxation at the University of North Carolina’s business school. The limited number of investors who were subject to the changes in 2003 has grown even smaller today, he said.

While data on the tax status of all stockholders is hard to come by, many economists agree than an increasing proportion of the entire equities market is now held by retirement investors whose holdings are not subject to current tax law; by foreign investors who don’t pay American taxes, or by institutional investors like insurance companies and pension funds that are exempt from taxes.

So Obama is going to tax certain investments that fewer people are going to use to avoid the taxes. That makes sense.

Cheating David Letterman getting Kennedy Center Honors?

Those 4 years of kissing Obama's ass while cheating on his wife with multiple staff members finally paid off for Letterman.
David Letterman famously - and very publicly - admitted cheating on his wife with staff at his late-night talk show in 2009.

And for the past three year, Regina Lasko has kept a very low profile indeed - she rarely appears with the TV funnyman, and he generally avoids making any reference to her.

But now it seems she might have forgiven him at last, as the pair were photographed together at the Kennedy Center Honors gala where he was feted for his contribution to American culture.

Reuters - French unions rage at Hollande over Mittal deal

More reality slapping Hollande in the face as he can't go leftist route.
French trade unions accused President Francois Hollande of betrayal on Saturday after his government backed away from a threat to nationalize ArcelorMittal's Florange steelworks.

The Socialist government said on Friday it had won promises from ArcelorMittal (MT.AS) to avoid forced redundancies and inject 180 million euros to develop the Florange plant, meaning it would no longer have to take over the site.

Hollande came to office promising to create jobs and keep open the two furnaces at the site in northern France which ArcelorMittal says are not viable in a European steel sector suffering over-capacity.

ArcelorMittal confirmed the details of the deal on Saturday, saying it would negotiate a voluntary redundancy deal with unions.

Workers are angry the furnaces will remain idle rather than reopened and expressed doubt over ArcelorMittal's promise to offer alternative posts or early retirement packages for the 630 workers affected.
